When I first started to learn about watercolor, I read in a book that it is good to make a color chart for the colors you buy and use.  Color shades and names can vary a lot depending on brands.  This has been a good idea and I use it with most of my art media.  When I get something new, I make a chart to experiment with the color and have a reference for the color and name of each.
